Biography

Carlos Sainz Jr. was born the 1st of September 1994 in Madrid (Spain).

At 7 years old he began to drive in Karts at his father's Indoor Karting in Las Rozas, Madrid, but he started to compete seriously in the summer of 2005 when he was 10.

In 2006 and with the teams Alemany, MGM and Benikart, he won the Cadete Category of Madrid Championship, finishing 3rd in the Trophy of the Industry (Parma-Italy) and 2nd in the Champions Race at the end of the year.

During the three following years, he contested the Junior Category. In his first year with Genikart Team, he won the I Trophy International City of Alcañiz Automobile and finished 3rd at Macau for the Asian-Pacific Championship, .

In 2008 and with the same category, he won the Asian-Pacific Championship at Macau and finished 2nd in the Spanish Championship, being the best Spaniard classified in the Europe Championship, the German Championship, the Trophy Andrea Margutti (Italy) and the Monaco Kart Cup.

In 2009 he competed being part of the Tony Kart Junior Team and contested some races at Genikart Team, winning the famous Monaco Kart Cup as well as the Classificatory for the West European area (England, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Andorra and Spain). He also finished 2nd in the European Championship's Final and 2nd in the Spanish Championship, adding a final 3rd at WSK International Series.

In 2010 and after several tests, Red Bull Team chose him to be a member of the Red Bull Junior Team and after four days of test he won the BMW Scholarship following the Scholarship Qualifyng. At 15 years old he contested the Formula BMW European Championship and he took part in three races of Formula BMW Asian-Pacific Championship with the Antonio Ferrari's Eurointernational team, therefore winning the Rookie Cup Formula BMW European Championship. During the same season, he achieved the victory in Macau Circuit event's Formula BMW Asian-Pacific Championship, which is a triumph barely easy to win. John Smith supported him in his career as well as in the previous season.

In 2011's season and thanks to a vertiginous evolution as a driver, the young Spaniard will contest two of the most prestigious championships at European level: the Northern European Cup (NEC) and the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. A new sponsor will be added to Red Bull and John Smith this year: buytheface.
